REVIEW OF THE AWARDS

AWARD FOR THE BEST ANTI-WAR FILM “A FILM FOR PEACE 2016”
My Enemy, My Brother by Ann Shin, Spain, 2015

Ann Shin’s film is poignant and penetrates mind and heart because it shows us the human side of people condemning the wars, which are desired only by Governments. The friendship between the protagonists Zahed and Najah, once enemies, fighting for two opposing armies, confirms the hope for a future in which all people can live in peace and invest in the spiritual growth of the human race. Essential and artistically remarkable documentary film.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM ON “WATER RIGHTS”
I custodi dell’acqua. La Carnia si ribella by Giulio Squarci, Italy, 2015

By taking us to places where water management is a huge problem and through interviews, this documentary by Giulio Squarci raises our awareness to an environmental issue, which will impact increasingly more Western societies, spared until now from experiencing this problem.
A must see film; we recommended to watch it and get acquainted, through powerful images, with the issue of water rights.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM RECOMMENDED FOR SCHOOLS
La mia casa e i miei coinquilini by Marcella Piccinini, Angola, Italy and Turkey, 2015

This documentary presents the issue of peace through the social commitment of Joyce Lussu.
This film is recommended for schools because of valuable images and testimonies mapping out the road from anti-fascist to anti-colonial struggle.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR THE BEST ANIMATED FILM RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN
dRaw not War (Sunday Bloody Sunday, 4’ 30” - project “Sapere Coop di Coop Liguria” - Israel, Palestine, Italy) by Matteo Valenti, in coproduction with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Palestine and Northern Ireland, 2015

Animation film by Matteo Valenti, with cartoons drawn by various schools in Europe and Middle East, with basic but effective images, gives us hope for a peaceful future since this is the desire of the youngest generation.
Director Matteo Valenti, using the beautiful soundtrack granted by U2, proposes through the film dRaw not War an anti-war message, which will be much appreciated by all children.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM ON DISARMAMENT
The Plague. Third Reich Chronicle by Maxim Kuznetsov, Russia, 2015

This documentary film is inspired by the events of World War II and shows the terrifying destructive force of humans’ worst invention: the weapon.
The film by Maxim Kuznetsov arouses disgust toward the wars and the weapons, without which armed conflicts would not exist.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM “FROM THE FIRST WORLD WAR TO A PEACEFUL FUTURE”
Figli di Maria by Cristian Natoli, Italy, 2015

The feature-length documentary by Cristian Natoli presents through archive footage and interviews with descendants of the soldiers who participated in the First World War, the impact of the Great War on the society of that time and the effect it still has in our lives. Very emotional is the journey of the Unknown Soldier, from Aquileia to Rome, whose tomb has become a symbol of the soldiers missing in action.
Documentary with broad and all-encompassing reach that reminds us of what shouldn’t have happened. Everybody should watch Cristian Natoli’s film to make sure the lesson will never be forgotten.

AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM ON HUMAN MIGRATION
District Zero by Pablo Iraburu, Jorge Fernández Mayoral & Pablo Tosco, Spain, 2015

Through daily life events and activities of a smartphone shop inside a refugee camp, the film presents to us the migrants seeking human contact with loved ones and friends. Human migration is often accompanied by deep emotional wounds and an warm welcome may help change for the better the lives of both guests and hosts.
