The “A Film for Peace” Festival is organised with the partnership of the Province of Gorizia, Municipality of Medea and Windcloak Film Production and supported by Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia Foundation. It is an international festival and it promotes film productions with peace-related themes such as the non-existence of wars or civil fights and respect for human rights whose violation is often the cause of the conflict itself.

Justification:

The board of judges considered the four finalist films to be of high quality for both their content and technical skills and thereby made the following decisions:

For short films the iury mutually decided to grant the first prize to "Smiling Dog" by Shohreh Jandaghian and the second prize to “Flowers of Rwanda” by David Muñoz for the following reasons:

“The Iranian director, combining “real life” and “animation” techniques, was able to communicate a child’s longing for peace”.

“Smiling Dog” overtly conveys the feeling of war absurdity to all persons, even adults”.

For feature films, between "Il sogno di Peter" by Enrico Cerasuolo and "Gli altri bambini" by Paola Chartroux, the jury collectively agreed to grant the first prize to "Il sogno di Peter" for the following reasons:

“... to have been able to express the difficulty rehabilitation of a “street boy” in Nairobi (Kenya) through the “Africa Spelling Book” educational project”.

"Il sogno di Peter" is widely known among millions of children around the world thanks to Enrico Cerasuolo’s good direction and skills in filmic narrative technique, it succeeds to convey to us that peace does not only involve the non-existence of war but also the creation of educational methods to prevent conflicts from arising”.

The jury mutually declared “Smiling Dog as “the FILM FOR PEACE 2008“ “because because within a mere 8 minutes and without the use of dialogues, it was able to convey the common need for peace amongst adults and children regardless of what country they are from”.
